Student Athletes

Dr. Garff is proud to serve as team physician for many local Independent School Districts, and Methodist Sports Medicine has agreements in place with several of our local high schools athletic departments. If you are a student athlete at one of these schools and your trainer recommends that you schedule an appointment to visit our facility, here are a few things to remember:

  • While Dr. Garff may be the team physician for your school sports program, payment is still required for your visit. Many insurances are accepted (click here to find insurance) and self-pay discounts are offered. Check with your athletic trainer to see if your school has supplemental insurance policies.
  • Visits to Methodist Sports Medicine and Dr. Garff are considered and categorized as a visit to a specialist.
  • Methodist Sports Medicine is not contracted with some Medicaid insurance including: Aetna, Parkland, Cook Children’s, and Ambetter Superior. If a student athlete has this kind of coverage, Dr. Garff cannot order diagnostic testing, refer to physical therapy, or a surgeon if needed. If you or your child has this kind of coverage, please call and discuss this with our office prior to making an appointment.
  • Co-pay, deductibles, and co-insurance are due at the time of service. Please discuss this with our office staff when making an appointment.
  • We do our best to schedule your visit as quickly as possible. While same-day or next-day appointments are preferred for acute injuries, we cannot guarantee times will be available. Because of our relationship with your school district, we have set aside specific times each day that we reserve for student athletes to help in getting your injury treated as quickly as possible.
  • Please bring all forms/paperwork with you to the appointment. These may include clearance to play forms from athletic trainers, academic accommodations forms, school insurance forms, school absence or work excuse/accommodations paperwork.
