Integrative Medicine Track
Our program offers residents the opportunity to be part of an Integrative Medicine Track. The Integrative Medicine curriculum at Methodist Charlton Family Medicine Residency is longitudinal with online learning, elective rotation opportunities, shared projects and application of knowledge into clinical practice. We offer our PGY2 and PGY3 the opportunity to formally enroll as Integrative Medicine track learners.
The online learning is done through the Integrative Medicine in Residency (IMR) program created by the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. The IMR is comprised of 200 hour online curriculum featuring evidence based conventional and complementary approaches to wellness and treatment of medical conditions.
The major topics covered in the IMR include:
- Introduction to Integrative Medicine
- Prevention & Wellness
- Tools in Integrative Medicine
- Integrative Pediatrics
- Integrative Acute Care
- Integrative Women’s Health
- Integrative Chronic Illness
- Practice Management for integrative clinic
In addition to online learning, we have integrative medicine related on-site activities. These include wellness groups, mindfulness sessions, workshops, Yoga and osteopathic manipulation treatments.
The goals of the Integrative Medicine track are:
- To understand the distinction between integrative medicine and complementary/alternative medicine (CAM)
- To use the knowledge gained within this course to enhance their relationship with their patients.
- To positively influence patient health and wellness by addressing the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect health.
- Learn and apply approaches for self-care including balancing home, work, personal and spiritual health.
- Using evidence based resources to the most commonly used healing modalities.
Upon successful completion of the IMR, the resident will be provided with a Certificate of Completion through Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and Methodist Health System.
