Perinatology
As Methodist Dallas Medical Center is a tertiary referral center with a level III neonatal intensive care unit, our residents care for women with a broad range of pregnancy complications. Residents gain experience in such standard procedures as abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies as well as more complex surgeries, including:

- This training begins in the 2nd year during a two-month rotation at a sponsoring institution. During this rotation, residents help care for women with gynecologic malignancies.
- While on GYN services during the 3rd and 4th year, residents work closely with gynecologic oncologists, caring for continuity patients and private patients with gynecologic malignancies.
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
Over the course of their training, our residents spend two months on an REI rotation. Under the supervision of the reproductive endocrinologists, residents participate in all phases of evaluation and treatment of infertility and related reproductive endocrine disorders. They learn how to perform:
- Semen analysis
- Post-coital tests
- Vaginal ultrasound for monitoring of ovulation
- Semen preparation for intrauterine insemination
They are also exposed to such assisted reproductive techniques as:
- In-vitro fertilization
- Embryo transfer

- ZIFT
- GIFT
The surgical experience focuses on basic and advanced operative laparoscopy, in addition to microsurgical procedures and operative hysteroscopy.
Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery
During the fourth year, residents complete a one-month rotation in a private urogynecology office, learning basic urogynecology procedures, along with patient pre- and post- operative management.
Primary Care
Recognizing that many women look to an OB/GYN for all medical care, our program offers a well-rounded curriculum of primary care. To further our residents learning of the many aspects of primary care medicine, Family Practice and Internal Medicine faculty participate in the core lecture series utilizing the CREOG Educational Objectives for Primary and Preventive Ambulatory Care. In addition, one month of the intern year is devoted to outpatient primary care. Residents interested in Family Planning are afforded an opportunity to rotate at Southwestern Women's Surgery Center.
