Myelography

What is it?

Myelography is an X-ray study of the spinal canal. An iodine dye is injected into the fluid-filled space around the spinal cord and nerve roots (spinal canal), so these structures can be seen on X-ray film. The X-rays is taken as the dye moves through the spinal canal.

Who needs it?

Myelography may be recommended if a doctor suspects a blockage in the spinal canal or the nerves branching off the spinal cord. These blockages can be caused by a tumor, infection, herniated disc, or arthritis.

Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound

Transcranial Doppler ultrasound is a painless, 30- to 45-minute test that measures the speed of blood flow to the brain's large arteries. TCD ultrasound used to detect blood vessel spasm, blockages, or other conditions that put patients at potential risk for stroke.
