Junior Volunteers help Methodist Mansfield this Summer

When most teenagers are soaking up the sun, having fun with friends and relaxing this summer, others are using it as an opportunity to give back to their community. Sixty-two local students are stepping up to help others in need by participating in the Methodist Mansfield Junior Volunteers program.

The Junior Volunteer Program began in late May and runs through August. The junior volunteers work in various areas of the hospital including emergency department, material management, medical day, pharmacy, physical medicine, public relations, and sterile processing.

“We are extremely excited with the quality of students in our junior volunteer program,” said Mary Anne Moore, director of the Junior Volunteers Program. “They are extremely bright and enthusiastic, and they learn about the hospital while volunteering.” The junior volunteer program began in 2008 with 20 students. Since the program launch, 70 students have participated in the program to date contributing more than 10,667.24 volunteer hours to date.
