Three at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Honored as Health Care Heroes
Three staff members at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center were honored as health care heroes in Tarrant County.
Gary Alexander, MD, FACS is a board certified general surgeon on the Methodist Mansfield
medical staff;
Linda Caldwell, director of lab; and
Linda Caldwell, MT (ASCP), director of laboratory; and
Amanda Truelove, BSN, RN, RNC-OB, manager of labor and delivery, were honored as
Fort Worth Business Press HealthCare Heroes. They were among 21 health care professionals in Tarrant
County chosen for their excellence in the medical community, quality of
service, and demonstration of exceptional commitment to the health and
well-being of residents.
Dr. Alexander helped create and establish roboticda Vinci® Surgical System program at Methodist Mansfield, and set the standards for quality robotic medical care provided to patients. He leads the medical surgery committee and is certified in minimally invasive surgery, including da Vinci® robot. He specializes in surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, including heartburn and reflux disease, gallbladder, colon, thyroid, breast, and vascular system, to name a few.
Amanda Truelove, BSN, RN, RNC-OB, manager of labor and delivery is a 12-year veteran of the health-care industry. She spearheaded the hospital’s effort to reduce early elective deliveries by encouraging expecting mothers to wait until 39 weeks to deliver. “Healthy babies are worth the wait,” she proclaims. Through her efforts, the hospital has reduced elective deliveries from 13.3 percent in 2011 to zero year to date in 2015. She has also been instrumental in leading her team to retain some of the highest patient satisfaction rates in the nation now in the 97thpercentile nationally by Press Ganey.
Linda Caldwell, MT (ASCP) director of lab is a 38-year veteran of the health-care industry. She led the hospital’s efforts in developing an algorithm to determine a specimen’s length of viability to prevent unnecessary sticks to patients. It has led to minimizing collections of specimens at the bedside, providing greater patient satisfaction and specimen management. She was instrumental in implementing the electronic Mobi Lab®, a handheld patient ID system that scans ID bracelets and links them to the laboratory information system, thereby reducing misidentified specimens. She and her staff successfully implemented an electronic process for documentation of blood transfusions at the bedside called eTAR, eliminating multiple handwritten documents and streamlining the process into one.
