Dr. Sam Bagchi Named New SVP/Chief Medical Officer for Methodist Health System

CMOSam Bagchi, MD, has been named senior vice president chief medical officer at Methodist Health System. In his new role, Dr. Bagchi will lead physician quality improvement and patient safety efforts through evidenced-based best practices in all clinical care areas. In addition to providing leadership in using clinical data and advanced technology to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care at Methodist, Dr. Bagchi will also ensure that the medical staff remains on the cutting edge of clinical practices.“My vision is to provide physician leadership in advancing the Methodist mission to improve and save lives,” Dr. Bagchi says. Dr. Bagchi most recently served as senior vice president-chief medical informatics officer, the chief quality officer at Methodist.

A graduate of Indiana University, Dr. Bagchi received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Indiana University before receiving his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Bagchi completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He also served as a chief medical resident, a teaching attending, and a hospitalist at Queen’s Medical Center at the University of Hawaii’s John Burns School of Medicine. In 2006, Dr. Bagchi returned to Indiana as a hospitalist and internal medicine faculty member at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, Ascension Health.

Prior to joining Methodist, Dr. Bagchi served as chief medical informatics officer and medical director of utilization management at Vanguard Health Systems in the New England region. Prior to working with Vanguard, Dr. Bagchi was the director of hospital medicine and associate vice president of utilization management at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts.
