The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas Hosts the Second Annual Liver Life Walk
This year, The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas once again had the pleasure of partnering with The American Liver Foundation to be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2015 Liver Life Walk for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The American Liver Foundation is the nation’s leading non-profit organization focused on promoting liver health and disease prevention. The Liver Life Walk is held annually in cities across the nation to help bring awareness and raise funds to support the 30 million Americans suffering from liver related disease each year. In only its second year, The Liver Institute is also a founding sponsor of the walk that began in 2014.
By sponsoring and hosting the event for Dallas/Ft. Worth, The Liver Institute unites those in our community who either have liver disease themselves or are supporting a friend or loved-one together in the fight against liver disease. Both individuals and teams signed up to participate as walkers and to collect donations to fund medical research as well as education and advocacy programs for more than 100 types of liver disease. To help recruit participants, Sayon Thill wrote a personal letter detailing his decade long battle with liver disease and recent transplant success.
While the weather was uncooperative, the 2015 Liver Life Walk remained a huge success. Due to the heavy rains, the event was relocated to the Hitt Auditorium at Methodist Dallas where participants walked the “Methodist Mile”. Additionally, a Silent Auction was held that included Kendra Scott jewelry, vacation packages, home décor, spa packages and more to help raise additional funds for the American Liver Foundation. This year, The Liver Institute’s team exceeding their fundraising goal by more than $2000 and took the first place award for team fundraising and most spirited. Team captain, Miya McClary, who is the Liver Services/Marketing Coordinator for The Liver Institute, received the second place award for individual fundraising with champion patient and liver transplant recipient, Sayon Thill, winning third place.
Currently, The Liver Institute has raised over $4000 from the Liver Life Walk, but, while they have reached their goal, the American Liver Foundation is still working to meet their overall goal for 2015. There is still time for you to help! You can make a donation online or mail a check to The American Liver Foundation at 4545 E. Shea Blvd., Ste. 246, Phoenix, AZ 85028.
Both The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas and the American Liver Foundation extend their thanks to all who participated in making the 2015 Liver Life Walk a victory against liver disease!
