Methodist Charlton Nationally Recognized for Breast Cancer Care

Southern Dallas County – Methodist Charlton Medical Center is now nationally accredited as a Breast Center of Excellence. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) gives the recognition to hospitals that have undergone a rigorous evaluation. The evaluation determines the hospitals are providing high quality breast care to women diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The NAPBC is administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:

  • Diagnostic services, including digital mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic & ultrasound guided breast and surgical biopsies, and bone densitometry exams. Patients have access to a variety of treatments and surgical services, including reconstructive surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy.
  • Multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the high quality treatment options. The medical specialties involved in this coordinated effort include radiologists, surgeons, reconstructive surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists.
  • Dedicated, fellowship-trained breast surgeon who specializes in breast surgical oncology and oncoplastic reconstruction of the breast.
  • Cancer nurse navigator who helps guide patients through cancer treatment by answering questions, coordinating care and appointments, and providing education and emotional support to breast cancer patients.

Patient Wanza Coates says her cancer nurse navigator not only prepared her for surgery, but was also there to support her the day of surgery. “Thanks to Methodist Charlton’s nurse navigator program, I never felt alone,” Coates says.

“It is an honor to be recognized as among some of the highest level of breast treatment centers in the nation,” says Darshan Gandhi, MD, MBA, Medical Director of Oncology at Methodist Charlton. “This accreditation will help us provide maintain a high quality of comprehensive breast care to our patients, ranging from benign breast diseases to cancers."
