Methodist Richardson achieves prestigious Magnet® Designation for Nursing Excellence

First Methodist Health System hospital to receive designation

Richardson – This morning, Methodist Richardson Medical Center achieved Magnet® designation for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The ANCC recognition program is viewed around the world as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. In addition to being recognized for innovations in nursing processes, Magnet® organizations are also recognized for outstanding patient care, which leads to the highest levels of safety, quality, and patient satisfaction. Only eight percent of hospitals in the United States have earned this designation. Methodist Richardson is the first Methodist Health System hospital to achieve this recognition.

“Our Magnet® designation demonstrates our dedication to providing excellent service and quality clinical care to our patients,” says Irene Strejc, MPH, BSN, RN, chief nursing officer and vice president of nursing, Methodist Richardson Medical Center. “Recognition from the ANCC is the most welcome and appreciated honor of my career. The recognition belongs to everyone at Methodist Richardson and to Methodist Health System who support and inspire us all to be our best for every patient, every day.”

The process for achieving Magnet® status is a lengthy and rigorous process that requires extensive staff participation.
Following submission of the application and detailed qualitative and quantitative documentation on patient care and outcomes, a thorough on-site visit occurs. After reviewing the appraisal report, the Commission on Magnet® Recognition votes to decide whether Magnet® recognition will be granted.

“Magnet hospitals provide patients and their families with the gold standard of nursing excellence,” says Ken Hutchenrider, Jr., FACHE, president, Methodist Richardson Medical Center. “We are so very honored that Methodist Richardson has achieved this prestigious designation.”
