Methodist Ranks in Top Five Nationwide in Medicare Savings Over Six Years
Methodist Health System’s Patient-Centered Accountable Care Organization (MPCACO) is recognized as one of the top five performing Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) in the nation over the past 6 years, according to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), saving taxpayers more than $84 million since 2012.
The goal of an ACO is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right coordinated care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.
When an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) demonstrates that it has achieved high-quality care and effectively reduced spending of healthcare dollars, it is able to share in the savings generated for Medicare and tax payers through this program. In 2018, MPCACO achieved more savings per beneficiary than any other ACO in North Texas. The attributed savings was more than $13 million in 2018. Over the last six years, MPCACO is attributed to saving CMS more than $84 million.
“We are very proud of our ACO so it’s especially nice to see Methodist recognized at the national level,” says George Williams, MD, MMM, FACEP, President, Methodist Patient Centered ACO. “The ACO is the embodiment of our mission to improve and save lives through compassionate, quality healthcare.”
Methodist is proud to be the first ACO in North Texas to qualify for shared savings six years in a row.
“Methodist has achieved six years of saving while keeping our quality scores high,” says Brian Jones, MD, FAAFP, Chairman, MPCACO Board of Directors. “It’s just another reason we are the trusted choice for health and wellness in our community.”
