Methodist Dallas Achieves Level III Maternal Care Designation

Dallas—The Women and Children’s Services team at Methodist Dallas Medical Center has been recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services with a Level III Maternal Care designation. This recognition certifies that Methodist Dallas is not only equipped to provide care to low- and moderate-risk pregnancies, but also more complex maternal medical conditions, obstetric complications, and fetal conditions.

“This designation, together with our previous Baby-Friendly designation and Level III NICU, is a great indicator to our patients that they can expect to receive high-quality, compassionate care when they have their baby here at Methodist Dallas,” says Theresa Patton, MD, OB-GYN on the medical staff at Methodist Dallas.

To achieve this designation, Methodist Dallas is required to have: a specially trained nursing staff to care for women with complex and critical maternal illnesses, a board-certified OB-GYN and an anesthesiologist available at all times, medical and surgical ICUs that accept pregnant and postpartum women, among other requirements.

“The Level III maternal designation highlights the comprehensive multidisciplinary care that we give to our maternal patients,” says Latosha Boldware, RN, nurse manager for Labor and Delivery. “This achievement was a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary effort. Months of meetings and planning ensure our practice, process, and our policies aligned. We’re thrilled that the state has recognized our efforts with this Level III designation.”
