Internal Medicine Residency

Internal Medicine Residency Program at Methodist Dallas Medical Center

Welcome to the Methodist Health System Internal Medicine Residency Program. We are thrilled that you are interested in our program and hope to be able to share some of the things that make Methodist so special.

Although we are categorized as a community based program, we view ourselves as a "hybrid" between university and community. As an urban hospital strategically positioned to care for the diverse, underserved population of South Dallas, most of our patients do not have access to healthcare and present to our emergency department with late stage illness and extreme manifestations of disease. Once hospitalized and stabilized, we ensure compassionate continuity of care with follow-up by residents in the Golden Cross Academic Clinic.

We have 30 full time, internal medicine faculty members and over 60 subspecialty faculty members. Our ward system follows a university program model with an assigned attending physician for each team, 1 supervising resident, 2 interns, and 2-3 medical students. We encourage graduated, progressive responsibility and autonomy with appropriate supervision and support.

Our curriculum is also of the university model with required and elective rotations, daily educational conferences, research, and scholarly activity programs. In addition to core curriculum requirements, we strive to tailor training to each resident's needs in order to ensure success in future endeavors. Since our program is relatively small, we are able to provide individual attention to each resident, both professionally and personally. We pride ourselves in the close faculty and resident relationships with exceptional mentorship and camaraderie. We also recognize that the complete physician must possess attributes of compassion and humanism and foster these through monthly sessions with faculty members.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing more information about our program. Please contact us with questions. Thank you.
