Kobey Juergens – Partial Knee Replacement Success Story

A joint effort – How Kobey Juergens and the Methodist Joint Academy made a partial knee replacement a walk in the park

Kobey Juergens – Partial Knee Replacement Success Story
“I told my wife it was like we were on vacation at the hospital.”

This happy revelation comes from Kobey Juergens, a 44-year-old Arlington resident and father of two, as he describes what it was like for him at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center post partial knee replacement surgery.

“I’ve had seven or eight other surgeries in the past, including a knee replacement, and no one cared about me like Methodist did,” Juergens says with confidence.

Last August, Juergens was listening to Methodist Mansfield President John E. Phillips, FACHE, speak at the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce and was inspired to be more proactive about the knee pain that he had resigned himself to bearing. He pulled Phillips aside after his speech and soon enough, Phillips had connected Juergens with orthopedic surgeons and the Joint Academy team at Methodist Mansfield.

No question unanswered

Juergens chose Jason Lowry, MD, who quickly assessed Juergens’ condition and discussed possible options with him and his family. In the end, Juergens decided upon a partial knee replacement.

“Partial knee replacement is a less intensive procedure than a full knee replacement, and we’ve actually seen quite a few patients respond better to them,” Dr. Lowry says. “We always want to make sure that we aren’t overtreating.”

Before the procedure, Juergens completed classes through theMethodist Mansfield Joint Academy. This one-time course helps patients take care of preliminary paperwork and educates them about every step of their procedure — before, during, and even after their time in the hospital.

Easing back into life after partial knee replacement surgery

Juergens had surgery on Sept. 23 and was at home the next day.

“My pain didn’t get above a three the entire time,” he says. “Dr. Lowry and the team made it a breeze for my family and me; we almost didn’t want to leave!” Juergens says with a chuckle.

Juergens is now walking strong and is well on his way to feeling better than ever.

“In my mind, the care we received at Methodist Mansfield is just a reflection of the standard y’all have put in place,” he says. “You didn’t just help me with the surgery, you helped me get back on my feet again, in every sense of the word.”
