Ivana Segvic-Boudreaux – Childbirth Success Story

A wonderful gift – giving your baby the best start possible

undefinedFor many women, the joys of motherhood come soon after marriage. But for Ivana Segvic-Boudreaux, the demands of a career as an assistant journalism professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and an already-full life meant her decision to marry and begin her journey of motherhood came later than it does for many women.

"There isn't a more important job a woman can have than raising a child, and I wanted to feel comfortable and secure before experiencing the countless joys and challenges of motherhood," Mrs. Boudreaux says. "I was in my early 30s when I became pregnant with my first child, and I didn't know what to expect."

Mrs. Boudreaux turned to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center for expertise and guidance.

Her physician, Dr. Erin Westerholm, an independently practicing board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist on the Methodist Mansfield medical staff, was unlike any doctor she had ever known.

Vigilance and caring

undefined"Dr. Westerholm did everything to help me have a healthy pregnancy," Mrs. Boudreaux says. "I almost lost my daughter at 16 weeks due to complications, and if it had not been for the Methodist Mansfield medical staff and my physician's early actions in the wee hours of the night, I don't think Sofia would be here today."

"I had a long, difficult natural birth with Sofia, but I never worried about the baby or myself," Mrs. Boudreaux says. "Everyone at the hospital was very experienced and compassionate, and they provided the one-on-one attention, expertise, and care that my husband, Kevin, and I needed."

"They made us feel like a member of the family and provided genuine care and concern," she continues. "The delivery room was very large and comfortable, and everyone at the hospital made me feel right at home, nurturing my body and mind during my stay. The nurses educated me in newborn care and taught me how to breastfeed, and I learned that breastfeeding is good for both mother and infant because it reduces the baby's risk of ear infections, skin rashes, infections of the stomach and intestines, and diseases that affect breathing."

"I recommend Dr. Westerholm and Methodist Mansfield to everyone I know," Mrs. Boudreaux says. "And now that I am expecting my second daughter, I have preregistered again. Sofia is very excited about becoming a big sister, and we feel truly blessed to have Methodist Mansfield in the family."
