Dallas Pharmacy Residency Programs

A message from our PGY1 Program Director:

Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, one of the largest and longest-standing hospitals in Dallas, Texas.

As a pharmacy resident at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, you will be part of a department that puts patient care our number one priority. Our dedicated staff has an excellent rapport with medical and nursing personnel and is highly committed to providing quality medication-related care for our patients. The purpose of our program is to build on the resident's Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for the care of patients with a wide range of conditions. Additionally, we hope to imbue the skillset required for board certification and postgraduate year two pharmacy residency training.

Our unique size and organizational structure provide an ideal learning environment for pharmacy residents. Methodist Dallas provides a variety of exceptional clinical programs and services, including:

  • Adult internal medicine
  • Adult critical care
  • Emergency/trauma care
  • Solid organ transplantation
  • Orthopedic and general surgery
  • Medication Therapy Management
  • Golden Cross Clinic

In addition to the numerous learning opportunities and challenges, our residents are given teaching responsibilities with students from five Texas colleges of pharmacy.

General Information

Clinical rotations in the 12-month, hospital-based Pharmacy Residency Program at Methodist Dallas are offered in a variety of clinical areas. The resident's responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
  • Providing medication therapy management including pharmacokinetics consults
  • Educating the interdisciplinary team on drug therapy
  • Presenting various journal clubs, case presentations, and in-services

Other responsibilities include:

  • Completion of a major research project that is presented at the ASHP mid-year clinical meeting and regional residency conference, ALCALDE
  • Completion of a medication utilization evaluation 
  • Presenting various journal clubs, case presentations, and in-services 
  • Obtainment of preceptor license from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
  • Opportunity to attain a teaching certificate through University of North Texas College of Pharmacy 

 As a pharmacy resident, in addition to rotation responsibilities, you are afforded the opportunity to be a member of the hospital's pharmacy staff and serve as a pharmacist in the department. Additionally, residents are expected to be involved with various hospital committees including, but not limited to, P&T and Quality & Safety committees.

  • Transitions of Care

Application Process

In order to be considered for the residency program at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, you must complete each of the following steps:

  • Register for the ASHP Resident Matching Program
  • Utilizing the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) submit the following:
    • Current curriculum vitae
    • Letter of intent
    • Three references (Please have references complete the PhORCAS reference template)
    • An official copy of the college of pharmacy transcript

Requirements for Acceptance

  • Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Full eligibility for Texas licensure
  • Eligibility for employment at Methodist Dallas Medical Center
  • Participation in the residency matching program
  • On-site interview
