Education for Spiritual Caregivers of All Faiths at Methodist Richardson Medical Center

The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students at Methodist Richardson Medical Center have the opportunity to learn pastoral care in an interfaith setting through ministry in patient parishes and through reflection in seminars and didactics.

Exploring Life, Learning, & Ministry

CPE students at Methodist are actively engaged in ministry and personal reflection. They participate in concentrated reflection on who they are, what they are doing, and how they bring themselves to their ministry — all under the guidance of a clinical pastoral educator and peers. CPE students find themselves challenged to grow personally and professionally as they explore life, learning, and ministry.

The learning from our CPE program can be applied to an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) certification, Clinical Membership in ACPE, parish ministry, ordination/seminary requirements, pastoral counseling, and hospital chaplaincy.

Methodist Richardson currently offers opportunities for CPE through the following:

Level I/Level II and Supervisory

Methodist Richardson offers a diverse clinical setting for CPE Chaplains as well as a wide spectrum of educational and practical experiences. To further enhance the educational process, students share their experiences with peers and other professionals through a variety of workshops and seminars.

  • Theological Integration Seminars — focus on integrating theological insights with actual ministry events.
  • Interpersonal Relationship (IPR) — a peer group learning experience designed to assist chaplain in exploring various personal and professional issues that may arise during their ministry.
  • Verbatim Seminars — serve to review and critique verbatim reports of actual pastoral visits.
  • Didactic Seminars — include lectures and presentations from interdisciplinary professionals and educators on pastoral, ethical, and health care concerns.
  • Worship Seminars — offer residents the opportunity to review worship leading and receive feedback from their educators.
  • Individual Supervision — with one of the educators.
  • Interdisciplinary Case Studies — offer residents opportunity to reflect with other health and pastoral care professionals on individual cases.
