Golden Cross Ministry

For the uninsured, unemployed, elderly, and others facing chronic or serious illness without the financial means to access health services in Dallas County, Golden Cross Ministry is here to help. The Golden Cross Ministry began in 1921 by Rev. Charles Selecman and seven men in a Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in Dallas:

  • Layton W. Bailey
  • W.C. Everett
  • Dan Morgan
  • M.J. Norrell
  • Rev. J.A. Old
  • Gus W. Thomasson

With the support of Methodist churches throughout the North Texas Conference, these dedicated men envisioned a ministry that would revolutionize the way health care is delivered to those in greatest need.

Caring for the Community

Generations later, the vision has endured and is no less revolutionary. Thanks to the faithful support of generous individuals, Methodist churches, and caring physicians, the Golden Cross Academic Clinic at Methodist Dallas Medical Center has become a reality.

Today, the Golden Cross Ministry provides:

  • Free medications for eligible patients through the MedAssist program
  • Social services, nutrition services, and health education programs to help Golden Cross patients remain well and active at their workplaces and in their communities
  • Short-term counseling services to help these patients learn better ways to cope with chronic illness
  • Golden Cross Academic Clinic — today and into the future

The Golden Cross Academic Clinic is a well-equipped, modern medical facility located in the Margaret and Robert S. Folsom Building near Methodist Dallas Medical Center that serves as many as 25,000 patients a year.

The faculty physicians, residents, interns, registered nurses, and other healthcare-related professionals who staff the clinic provide compassionate care, health education, and outreach services to improve the health of the community.

In addition to serving patients' current wellness and chronic-illness management needs, the Golden Cross Academic Clinic provides valuable medical training and experience to doctors whose professional skills will continue to benefit the community in the future.
