Quality Commitment
In addition to providing personal, multidisciplinary care and advanced technology, MDI works to enhance the health and well-being of patients through continuous quality improvement efforts. Among other things, quality improvement efforts increase providers’ knowledge and understanding of healthcare practices and their contribution to treating disease.
To this end, quality efforts for the year 2017-2018 are focusing on:
- Evaluating ways to improve pain management for patients with pancreatic disease.
- Working with Emergency Department providers to help identify and treat more quickly patients who present with symptoms of acute pancreatitis.
- Developing care options that address cancer patients’ quality of life and bolster end-of-life planning services to patients and families.
Maintain Clinical Databases and Registries
National and internal clinical registries help doctors and researchers improve the quality and safety of the care they provide to their patients. MDI participates in this process by collecting and analyzing data on the progress of our patients in order to compare the effectiveness of different treatments for the same disease or condition, to evaluate different approaches to a procedure, or to see what factors influence patient experience. All patient information is blinded and aggregated to protect patient privacy. Some of the areas where MDI collects and studies patient data include:
