Classes for moms and families at Methodist Dallas Medical Center

Methodist Dallas offers a full range of classes to help you and your family prepare for your baby and to support you after your baby has arrived.

Childbirth Preparation

This class is designed to prepare you for the experience of childbirth and the early postpartum period. Topics include breathing, relaxation, Cesarean birth, and recovery. A tour of the Maternity unit is included in this class.

Cost: $70

• Register by the 3rd month to ensure space in the class
• Take during the 7th month of pregnancy
• Offered weekday evenings and some weekends

Childbirth Refresher

This class is designed for parents with previous childbirth experience. It includes a review of breathing and relaxation techniques.

Cost: $30

• Take during the 7th month of pregnancy

Daddy Boot Camp

Veteran dads orient fathers-to-be on the realities of fatherhood in this one-session program.

Cost: $20

• Offered on a weekday evening or a Saturday

Baby Care

This course is for expectant parents who want to learn about caring for their newborn infant. Topics include common newborn behaviors, bathing, safety, immunizations, and signs and symptoms of illness.

Cost: $30

• Offered weekday evenings and some weekends

Breastfeeding

This one-session evening class discusses preparation for breastfeeding; breastfeeding techniques; preventing and solving common breastfeeding problems; pumping and storing breast milk; and breastfeeding and breast pumping guidelines for returning to work.

Cost: $30

• Offered every other month
• Offered weekday evenings and some weekends

Infant Safety and CPR

This course teaches the basic skills of Infant CPR following the American Heart Association Friends and Family guidelines. It also offers information on infant car seats and safety in your home.

Cost: $35

Sibling Class

This one-session class discusses life with a new baby and is designed for older children in the family (ages 3-9). Parents are also provided with information about an older child’s potential responses to a new baby. Parents should accompany their children.

Cost: $15 for one child; $10 each for two or more children

• Take one to two months before due date
• Offered one Saturday morning every other month

Hospital Maternity Tours

Free tours are available on the second Monday of each month. Meet in the main lobby at 7 p.m. Parking is available in the underground Schenkel Tower visitor parking garage. Take the main entrance on Beckley Avenue. No registration or fee is required. For those enrolled in the Childbirth Preparation class, this tour is included.

Online Childbirth Education

eLearning Online Childbirth Education Class – convenient, web-based, self-paced childbirth education classes
The Gift of Motherhood eLearning Online Childbirth Education Class is designed to assist expectant parents in preparing for the birth of their baby. This program offers an alternative for moms and dads who cannot attend a conventional on-site childbirth class due to bed rest, scheduling conflicts, or time constraints. It is also a good option for parents interested in a refresher childbirth course. The interactive, web-based program includes animated illustrations, videos, voice-overs, and interactive games to help make learning fun
