Hysterectomy Surgery in Dallas
Making Surgery Easier Than Ever Before
Methodist Dallas Medical Center now offers robot-assisted hysterectomy procedures for women looking for the potential for a speedier recovery. Thanks to this new technology, what once required a large incision and several weeks of healing is often now significantly minimized to include smaller incisions and less downtime.
About the Robotic Hysterectomy Procedure
Our hospital is among the first in the area to offer the robot-assisted single-site hysterectomy technique. To avoid making multiple incisions, our surgeons can use robotic technology to perform the same operation with only one small entry site.
You may need a hysterectomy if you have:
- Excessive blood flow during your period
- Endometriosis
- Prolapse of your uterus
- A desire to have a hysterectomy
- Uterine Fibroids
What Happens During This Surgery?
During a robot-assisted hysterectomy, a single incision is made at the belly button. From here, the robotic system will be able to insert small, precise instruments into the abdominal cavity and begin the procedure to remove the uterus.
What Will My Recovery Be Like?
As this surgery is so precise and can require only one incision, the healing time for a Single-Site hysterectomy can be greatly reduced. Some patients have been able to resume normal activity in as little as two weeks. However, it’s important to allow the body sufficient time to heal on a case-by-case basis, so as not to undo the progress made during the operation. You should not participate in sexual activity for at least 12 weeks and should limit physical activity for the first 2 weeks.
It’s possible you’ll feel like walking relatively soon after the surgery. However, make sure you speak with your doctor first to make sure doing so won’t cause any damage.
