Having a baby can be exciting, scary, and joyful all at once. At Methodist Dallas Medical Center, we’ve designed our Women and Children's services to meet your childbirth needs through every stage of labor, delivery, and new motherhood.
Labor & Delivery Virtual Tour
Methodist Dallas Medical Center is pleased to provide our labor and delivery patients and their families with a virtual tour to get acquainted with our hospital. Although our current in-person tours are cancelled, we do provide a virtual tour that will orient you and help you navigate each step of the labor and delivery process.

Arrival
When you drive up the main drive way at the hospital, you will see the signs for the Labor & Delivery parking lot which is on the right. Once there, you may park in one of the parking spots designated for “L&D Drop-off". These parking spots have a 2 hour maximum. For extended parking, please move your vehicle to the underground Schenkel Tower paid parking garage.
Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) Suites
Methodist Dallas features 14 spacious Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites. Each LDR suite is fully equipped so you and your family can count on expert medical care and support throughout labor and child birth in a single, comfortable setting. Your baby will be placed skin-to-skin with you right after delivery.
Mother-Baby Shared Care – Rooming-In
Because we believe in togetherness for moms and babies, we’ve designed our suites and services especially for “rooming in.” Your baby will remain with you in your room throughout your stay. This gives you both a great opportunity for bonding and allows our dedicated team of mother-baby nurses to care for you both at the same time.
Methodist Dallas is the first hospital in Dallas to be recognized as a Baby-Friendly Designated birth facility from Baby-Friendly USA. This designation recognizes facilities that offer breastfeeding moms the information, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.
Precious moments quiet time
Quiet time is offered each day from 1 to 3 p.m. and 1 to 3 a.m., as well as the first 30 minutes following birth. Quiet time is intended to:
- Offer an extended period of rest
- Decrease postpartum sleep deprivation
- Facilitate bonding between mom and baby and dad and baby
- Allow moms to breastfeed without interruption
- Help families transition from hospital schedule to home schedule
During quiet time, visitors will not be allowed unless medically necessary or invited by mom.
Antepartum Unit
For women with special needs or who are experiencing high-risk pregnancies or related pregnancy complications, we offer an eight-bed unit for long-term obstetric care.
Postpartum
The days after the birth of your baby are so important. The staff will provide family centered support to give you and your family all the time you need to form that special bond. A lactation consultant will be available to provide breastfeeding assistance during your hospital stay.
NICU
There is a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Methodist Dallas that delivers care around the clock to premature and low birth-weight infants born at our hospital.
Checking In At Home
After you go home with your infant, a nurse will call you to answer your questions, offer support, and make sure you and your infant are doing well.
